Installing Clean Access for Authenticated Wireless

Details

Clean Access

If you don't need access to non-web University applications and are not accessing the residence hall network, you can use Guest Access via the GUEST_BSU wireless network access point, which does not require the Clean Access software.

Clean Access Requirements

If you are using a Windows operating system and need access to the Authenticated Wireless or residence hall network, you are required to install Clean Access Agent software on your computer.

Macintosh and Linux systems will not be required to install the Clean Access Agent software at this time.

Before You Install the Clean Access Agent Software

These instructions assume your computer is in good working order and that you have an updated web browser and an Ethernet cable (not a telephone cord) or 802.11-capable wireless network card.

Also, your computer must not be currently infected with spyware or viruses, or compromised or "cracked" by others via the Internet.

If it is determined your computer is already infected or compromised, you may need to take such measures as scanning and deleting viruses or spyware, or (in extreme cases) wiping your hard disk clean and reinstalling all operating system files and user programs to rid yourself of any infestation before your computer is allowed to connect to the University network.

The OIT Help Desk will happily suggest resources to help you with personal computer issues; the OIT Help Desk cannot perform any service or installations for computers not owned by the University.

Students in University Housing residences can receive assistance with installations and troubleshooting on personal computers by setting up an appointment with a computer technician through their Front Desk or Apartment Manager.

Installing the Clean Access Agent Software

When you first connect to the University residence hall network or campus wireless network, open a web browser on your computer (e.g., Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Safari). Your web browser should automatically redirect to the Clean Access authentication website. You may briefly see the following message:

You are being redirected to the network authentication page.
If you are not redirected automatically, then please click HERE.

You may see a Security-related message similar to the image below at any time during the installation process. Click Yes to proceed if this message (or any similar message) appears.

Security Alert

The next screen will be the Clean Access Authentication page. Log in using your BroncoWeb username and password.

Macintosh, Linux and other non-Windows users will log in to complete the authentication process.

Windows users will need to continue installing the Clean Access authentication software per the instructions below.

Should you receive a notice you have been quarantined from the network, please see our Clean Access Troubleshooting page. Wireless network users can contact the OIT Help Desk for support at 426-4357; residence hall network users can see their Front Desk or Apartment manager to make an appointment for technical support.

Once Windows users have logged in successfully, a page will appear requiring you to download the Clean Access Agent software.

Click on the Download Clean Access Agent button similar to the image below.

Download Clean Access

You’ll be asked to Run the software or Save it; choose to Run the software.

If you receive a warning similar to the one below, please just click the "Run" button.

Security Warning

The software installation process is fully automated and the Clean Access Agent will configure itself with appropriate settings.

Upon completion of the installation process, a log in screen will appear (you may see the message “Failed to add Clean Access Agent icon to taskbar status area.”  If so, click on OK, which will close the log in screen):

Log in to the network using your current BroncoWeb username and password.

If the Cisco Clean Access Agent dialog box does not appear, it may be because you have a personal firewall installed, such as ZoneAlarm, or an anti-virus program such as McAfee Security Center that is blocking the Clean Access Agent from accessing the network.  If you are prompted to allow your firewall or other security software to allow CleanAccess to access the network, choose “Always allow” (or any other affirmative response).

There should now be a Clean Access Agent icon in your Windows System Tray that looks like this: . You can also use the Start Menu and choose All Programs > Cisco > Clean Access > Clean Access Agent to launch the software at any time.

The next time you connect to the University Authenticated Access wireless network or the residence hall network, the Clean Access Agent login screen should automatically appear. Enter your BroncoWeb username and password to log in to the network.

Of course, the OIT Help Desk is available for any questions you may have about Clean Access. We're open 8:00 am - 5:00 pm Monday - Friday, and you can reach us at 426-4357, or via e-mail at helpdesk@boisestate.edu
