Updating Workstation DNS Information

On July 27th, OIT will upgrade the Boise State DNS & DHCP servers. The production DNS servers Tanana.boisestate.edu (132.178.236.52) and Nenana.boisestate.edu (132.178.238.52) will be replaced by TNS1.boisestate.edu (132.178.4.39) and TNS2.boisestate.edu (132.178.4.41).  The DNS server records used by other hosts on the Internet will be pointed to the new DNS servers on August 3rd. The transition period will take approximately three weeks.

During the transition, computers using DHCP will register a dynamic DNS entry on the old system until they are transferred to the new system and register with it.  Systems still using the old DHCP/DNS server will not resolve DNS names for computers registered on the new system, and vice-versa. 

This means any connections that depend on DNS name resolution (such as RDP) to a computer using DHCP may need to be performed by IP address during the transition period. 

If you maintain machines with static DNS configurations, please remove Tanana and Nenana and replace with the following addresses:

The current production DNS servers will remain available until mid-November, after which time they will be removed from production. For clients using DHCP, all changes will be automatic.  DHCP pools will begin migrating to the new system on Monday July 27th.
