Configuring iPhone and iPod Touch
Getting Started
Before beginning, please be sure you have read the information on configuring your account for mobile access and using your Google password (not your BroncoWeb password) on our Google Apps for Mobile Devices page.
Configuration Instructions
Google Apps can be accessed using the following methods:
- Using the Google Mobile App application to access Google Apps through the Safari web browser.
Accessing email through the Google Mobile Apps application allows you to leverage several Gmail features like Advanced Search Operators to search your entire account, creation of Labels, Stars, using Conversation threading, and much more. You can also view Tasks, multiple Google Calendars, and all of your Google Docs. - Using the native Email, Calendar and Contacts applications.
This will provide basic email functionality, allow to view your own calendar, and synchronize your Google Contacts with your device.
Some people prefer a combination of methods 1 & 2; this allows quick at-a-glance access to email, as well as the option via the web client to search your entire account and access additional features.
Configuration instructions are listed below:
Option 1: Configuring the Google Mobile App
- The Google Mobile App is a free download from the Apps Store. Launch the Apps Store icon on the device, and search for "Google Mobile App." Install the application, then launch it.
- Click the Settings button at lower-right, and type boisestate.edu for 'Domain.' This will enable Boise State Mail, Calendar, Docs and Talk links within the application.
More info on using Google Mobile Applications for iPhone/iPod Touch is available on Google's website.
As an alternative, you can launch Safari on your device and browse directly to http://apps.boisestate.edu/ to view your email, calendar, tasks, and docs at any time.
Option 2: Configuring the Native Email Application
- On the device, click the Settings application.
- Click Mail, Contacts and Calendars.

- Click Add Account.
- Choose Microsoft Exchange.

- Enter the requested information. Leave the "Domain" field blank, and make sure you use your Google password (not your BroncoWeb password) where indicated. Click the Next button at upper-right to continue.

- Now you're presented with a "Server" field. Enter m.google.com as the "Server," and click Next at upper-right.

If the connection fails, you most likely need to clear the captcha for your Google Apps account (use only your username, not your email address where prompted; enter your Google password), or reset your Google password.
- You'll now be presented with a choice for synchronizing your Gmail, Contacts and/or Calendars. Turn on all three, unless you want to pick and choose which services you want to sync.
You can also choose how many days of mail you wish to synchronize, as well as which labels (mail folders) should be pushed to your device.
- If you chose to switch Contacts to "On," you'll be prompted with a message similar to the screenshot below. If you click Delete, you'll delete any contacts you already have on your iPhone. Otherwise, just click Keep on My iPhone to download your Google Apps contacts to your phone.

- When you're done, click the aptly-named Done button at top-right.
